"Go-getters" wanted: Training Day at thyssenkrupp Automotive Body Solutions in Wadern-Lockweiler

  • Up to 120 participants from schools in the surrounding area

  • Exciting program provided insights into day-to-day training activities on the premises of the Lockweiler-based body shop company

  • 25 apprenticeships and dual study places on offer

On 15 October, the body shop specialist thyssenkrupp Automotive Body Solutions invited potential trainees and apprentices to the "Training Day" event at its premises in Wadern-Lockweiler. For the first time since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the automotive supplier welcomed students from the final-year classes of colleges in the surrounding area again to inform them about the company's diverse training opportunities and give practical insights into the day-to-day training activities. The event was for the most part organized by the plant's trainees and apprentices.

"For us, the Training Day is an excellent opportunity for contact with potential applicants, especially in times when skilled workers are in short supply. We use it as an occasion to position ourselves as an attractive employer offering exciting career possibilities in the automotive industry. The students get a concrete picture of the training we provide, and direct dialog with them gives us a good insight into their interests and the expectations the young people have of us as an employer," explains Felix Bader, Chief Human Resources Officer at thyssenkrupp Automotive Systems.

There are currently around 1050 employees working at the site, and for the coming training year alone the company has 25 trainee places on offer again, predominantly apprenticeships as tool and industrial mechanics as well as dual study courses in industrial engineering, business IT and mechanical engineering. The company provides training at the Lockweiler plant site according to current requirements. All apprentices and trainees who successfully pass their final examinations are offered employment with the company.

"Training has always been a top priority for us. We invest on a sustained and effective basis in the further development of our training programs and work to the very highest technical standards in all our training facilities. The trainees learn their profession on state-of-the-art machines and are also given a structured introduction to new digital fields of application. In addition, we offer attractive social benefits and advanced training opportunities," says Torsten Körbs, Head of Project Business at the thyssenkrupp Lockweiler facility.

During the Training Day, active trainees from all stages of training fielded questions put to them by the attending students. On a tour of the plant, the participants were given an initial overview of the site on which the systems for body-in-white assembly are manufactured. In addition, there were insights into various applications in the machine park, such as milling and welding. The preparation of an examination was simulated in the training workshop, in addition to which there was a presentation on dual study courses, for example in industrial business management. As a highlight, the young visitors were given the opportunity to engrave their own giveaways.
