thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology examines options for the future of powertrain business at Bremen site

  • Structural changes in the automotive market require examination of measures in the Powertrain business at the Bremen site

  • Options range between an adjustment of the operating center and far-reaching structural measures

  • Joint process with employee representatives for review and decision-making to be completed by the end of the current financial year

Against the backdrop of ongoing structural challenges, thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology is examining various options for the future of the Powertrain business unit at the Bremen site. The powertrain business is part of the Automation Engineering business unit, in which thyssenkrupp's automotive supplier division has bundled its powertrain and battery assembly activities.

Powertrain in Bremen has been facing major challenges for years and is making high losses. The shift towards electromobility requires a fundamental transformation of the division. At the same time, cost pressure has increased massively due to new and cheaper competitors, particularly from China. Despite intensive efforts and investments in the millions, it has not been possible to stabilize the business and make it competitive in recent years.

With the process that has now been launched, thyssenkrupp plans to achieve long-term improvements and stabilize the Automation Engineering business as a whole.

To this end, various scenarios for the Bremen site are to be evaluated and developed in a joint process with the relevant employee representative bodies and with additional external expertise. Possible options range from an adjustment of the operating location to far-reaching structural measures. The conclusion of the review and a decision on the future of the Bremen site should be made by the end of the current financial year (September 30).
