thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology realigns chassis business

  • New organizational structure combines global technology expertise with greater regional accountability

  • Structural and workforce adjustments planned at the Essen and Ennepetal sites

  • New organization scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027

thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology is realigning its chassis business, which brings together the company’s expertise in steering, damping, and axle and system solutions. The new structure combines globally integrated technology and development capabilities with greater regional accountability in Europe, China, and North America.

The realignment reflects increasingly diverse market and customer requirements across regions, as well as continued competitive and cost pressures throughout the automotive supplier industry. With the new structure, thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology aims to strengthen its proximity to customers and markets, establish clearer accountabilities, and make more efficient use of its capabilities. Research and development and product management will be organized more globally, while the regions will assume greater responsibility for customer relationships, project execution, and operational business. This is intended to accelerate decision-making and enable the company to respond more quickly to regional requirements.

“Our customer markets are evolving in increasingly different ways from region to region. That is why we are bringing our global technology and development expertise together more consistently with local accountability,” said Viktor Molnar, COO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology. “Our goal is to make decisions faster, operate closer to our customers, and leverage our international capabilities more efficiently. In doing so, we are strengthening the competitiveness of our chassis business.”

The organizational realignment of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology’s largest business unit is also part of the segment’s broader strategic development. The objective is to position Automotive Technology as a focused, competitive automotive supplier capable of operating independently over the long term. A competitive cost base and a consistent focus on customers and markets are key prerequisites for achieving this goal. The new organization is scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027. In the period leading up to the launch, responsibilities will be further defined, and implementation of the new structure will be prepared.

Structural adjustments in Essen and Ennepetal

The organizational changes will also involve structural and workforce adjustments at the company’s sites in Essen and Ennepetal, Germany. Both locations house a range of capabilities within the company’s damping business. In total, approximately 160 to 180 positions are expected to be affected. The primary focus will be on development and engineering functions, with additional measures involving operational management and quality management activities.

A significant share of the changes will result from consolidating and transferring responsibilities to existing international centers of expertise. Capacity adjustments are also planned. Shock absorber production in Ennepetal will not be affected by the measures. The impact is expected to be of a comparable scale at both locations. The specific workforce measures will now be discussed with the responsible employee representatives.

At the same time, Essen and Ennepetal will remain important development and competence centers for the chassis business. The sites will continue to perform key development and engineering activities as well as support customer projects for the European market. Selected global management and coordination functions will also remain at the two locations.
