thyssenkrupp Gerlach turns 70
- 70th anniversary of thyssenkrupp’s forging business in Homburg
- From supplier of mining components to international manufacturer of forged crankshafts
thyssenkrupp Gerlach is today celebrating its 70th anniversary with a big party at its site in Homburg which gives employees the opportunity to show their families where they work. Former employees are also invited. The program has attractions for all ages, including the opportunity to observe the forging process for a crankshaft live on highly automated forging lines.
Occupational health and safety is a key requirement for the profitability of the company, whose high safety standards play a pioneering role in the thyssenkrupp Group.
thyssenkrupp Gerlach in Homburg can look back on a dynamic and successful history. The company was originally established to supply iron pit props to the mining industry in Germany’s Saarland region.
“Over the decades we have evolved into a leading supplier of forged crankshafts. We produce more than six million crankshafts per year and supply them to all well-known European car and truck manufacturers. We are very proud of our employees, who play a key part in this success,” says Franz Eckl, managing director of thyssenkrupp Gerlach in Homburg. The company is staging its family party to celebrate this success, its 70th anniversary, and as a thank you to all employees past and present.
The company is market leader for forged crankshafts. Located in Homburg since 1947, it develops and produces crankshafts for the international auto industry on six forging lines. Some 750 people work at the Homburg site. thyssenkrupp Gerlach is part of an international business unit within the Group with locations in Europe, North, Central and South America and Asia, producing forged crankshafts and a broad range of engine components.

thyssenkrupp is one of the world’s leading suppliers of materials and components to the auto industry. Nine out of ten premium class cars are fitted with components made by the company. One in three trucks feature drive components from thyssenkrupp. In the 2015/2016 fiscal year thyssenkrupp’s sales in the automotive sector came to around 9.8 billion euros. Customers include practically all the big auto manufacturers.
