thyssenkrupp receives quality award from auto manufacturer General Motors
This year General Motors has bestowed its most important quality award, the “Supplier Quality Excellence Award”, on thyssenkrupp’s Damper business unit. Every year the OEM honors its best suppliers in the areas of quality and customer satisfaction.

Great praise is due to the employees at our facility in Hamilton, Ohio, who devote themselves passionately to our products and customers every day.” thyssenkrupp has been supplying General Motors with dampers since 1984, initially for the “Corvette Stingray” model.
From its production facility in Hamilton thyssenkrupp supplies automotive customers in North America with active and passive damping systems. The product portfolio includes monotube and twin-tube gas pressure shock absorbers, complete air suspension systems and electronically adjustable dampers. A second location in San Diego also produces dampers for the aftermarket. The company’s thyssenkrupp Bilstein brand is the global market leader in the racing and aftermarket sectors.
The damper business is part of thyssenkrupp’s Components Technology business area. In this segment in North America alone, the company currently employs around 5000 people at 16 production locations. In addition to dampers, the company manufactures steering systems, springs and stabilizers, axle modules, crankshafts and camshafts at these locations. In the past fiscal year, the thyssenkrupp Components Technology business area increased its sales in North America by 17% year-on-year to around €1.9 billion.

thyssenkrupp is one of the world’s leading suppliers of materials and components to the auto industry. Nine out of ten premium class cars are fitted with components made by the company. One in three trucks feature drive components from thyssenkrupp. In the 2014/2015 fiscal year thyssenkrupp’s sales in the automotive sector came to around 9.8 billion euros. Customers include practically all the big auto manufacturers.
thyssenkrupp Components Technology business area
Employing around 29,000 people thyssenkrupp’s Components Technology business area produces high-tech components worldwide for the automotive and machinery sectors. In the auto sector the product range includes assembled camshafts, cylinder head modules with integrated camshafts, crankshafts, steering and damping systems, springs and stabilizers as well as the assembly of axle modules. In the machinery sector thyssenkrupp supplies components for construction equipment, wind turbines and numerous general engineering applications. In fiscal year 2014/2015 the Components Technology business area achieved sales of 6.8 billion euros.
