ADS (Adaptive Damping System)

With the monotube gas-pressure shock absorber with a separating piston, two electronically controlled switching valves take care of the automatic adjusting of the shock absorbers based on load and speed. In just 60 milliseconds, the valves select and switch between the four possible damper settings.

The driver’s experience is that the vehicle body seems to “float” over the ground without disruptive movements.

Characteristics:

  • Electronic four-stage damping system
  • Skyhook created by combining a soft and a hard characteristic for the extension and compression stages in the compression characteristics
  • Two pistons in an external adjustment module can be added, respectively, to the conventional working piston
  • The four characteristics are (extension/compression): soft/soft, soft/hard, hard/soft, hard/hard

DampTronic® I / II

DampTronic® is an electronically adjustable, infinitely variable damping system The adjusting valve can be integrated into the damper (DampTronic® I) or mounted on the outside of the damper (DampTronic® II). Sensors detect the current driving situation and the vehicle condition. The control unit records this information, which then optimizes the damping force for each individual damper.

Characteristics:

  • Electronically adjustable, infinitely variable damping system
  • Bypass adjustment with directional control valve technology – an infinitely adjustable slide valve opens a bypass channel to the hard-plated main piston
  • Comfort valve with soft plating integrated into the bypass channel
  • Adjusting valve integrated in the damper (DampTronic® I) or mounted on the outside of the damper (DampTronic® II)
  • Hard and soft settings defined by highly dynamic, passive shim valves
  • Wide spectrum in the range of low damper speeds (port adjustment)

DampTronic® select

With the DampTronic® select two-stage damper system, thyssenkrupp closes the gap between conventional, passive shock absorbers and elaborate, electronically and infinitely adjustable dampers. The advantage: in vehicles with DampTronic® select, by using a switch on the dashboard, the driver can alternate between two suspension configurations – e.g. standard or sports suspension.

Thanks to a great reduction in system costs, this system is an attractive proposition for even the compact and small car segments.

Characteristics:

  • Low-cost, two-stage electrically adjustable damper
  • Optional algorithmic switch for changing manually to the sports characteristic
  • Only slightly more expensive than a conventional damper design
  • Compact design with integrated piston
  • Normal characteristic defined as for conventional
  • Minimal power demand in the normal characteristic
  • Piston diameter: 32 mm

DampTronic® sky

The new DampTronic® sky dampers offer an especially good compromise between driving comfort and agility. In the new generation, each damper adjusts the damping force with two infinitely adjustable valves: one valve controls the extension phase – i.e. the force that ensues when the wheel rebounds – and the other the compression phase. This is a high-end system of semi-active damper adjustment. The control module adjusts the damping forces for each wheel individually in just a few milliseconds. This increases passenger comfort and stabilizes the vehicle body to the best possible degree.

Characteristics:

  • Infinitely variable damper adjustment
  • Two infinitely variable setting valves
  • Separate settings for the extension and compression phases
  • Directional control valve technology oriented towards comfort
