Beyond developing shock absorbers, thyssenkrupp also supplies complete steel-spring and air suspension modules.

These steel-spring and air suspension struts can be combined with both conventional dampers and electronically controlled dampers. In addition to the basic assembly of the modules at our plant, our development expertise includes the following components as well:

Steel spring module

The spectrum ranges from classic automobiles to current luxury products. We produce coil springs precisely according to automobile manufacturer specifications. As a result, this undercarriage specialist manufactures high quality coil springs for passenger vehicles in accordance with the newest technical specifications for various applications. The product range includes springs with pigtail ends with a force center design as well as in mini-block form. In particular, the barrel design of mini-block springs ensures optimum comfort on uneven surfaces. Due to the curved shape of springs with a force center design, which are now installed as standard in more and more vehicles, they can compensate for the transverse forces on the front axle that occur with McPherson spring struts. This significantly relieves the transverse forces on the piston rod in the shock absorber. Coil springs by thyssenkrupp Bilstein are designed for durability. The base material, high quality chrome vanadium steel or chrome silicon steel, is extremely break resistant and, following the forming process, it is hot set several times. This prevents later losses in height during operation.

Air suspension module

In the air suspension segment, thyssenkrupp is among the pioneers in original equipment. To this day we are the technology leader in series replacement. Our air suspensions provide not only damping and suspension, but also level control. The counter-pressure in the bellows ensures normal driving level even under a wide variety of loads. thyssenkrupp air suspensions are available in passive and active versions. While passive suspension systems allow only one damper setting, active air suspensions offer a selection of the right characteristics. Either the driver can press a button to choose between sport and comfort versions or the system selects the respective, optimum characteristic by itself within milliseconds.
